Easter Egg Hunt
Dear Local Businesses,
It’s hard to believe Easter and spring are just around the corner, which brings with it our local Easter Egg Hunt. The date for the Beloit Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for April 19th at 10:30am at the soccer fields for any age of child up to the 4th grade.
We plan on running things much the same as last year. We will once again be placing candy and small prizes on the soccer field to be hunted and each child will receive an Easter surprise. Candy and any monetary donations are both welcome and needed for this special event to continue. Monetary gifts will be used to purchase gifts and candy. Individual sponsors will be listed on each prize. A $5 donation will sponsor each prize. Each year we plan for 500 children.
We have been so excited and amazed about the support and donations we have received from various local businesses and individuals in the past 14 years since we have been organizing this event. We feel it is such an asset to our community to provide the kids with a tradition they will remember from their childhood. We don’t want anyone to feel obligated to donate, but we would like for everyone to have the opportunity to be included and help ensure the continuation of the Beloit Easter Egg Hunt.
Please send sponsor information and your donation to Beloit Easter Egg Hunt, 605 Logan, Beloit, KS 67420. If you would like to make a candy donation please call Jenny at 738-3043 or Heather at 738-8905.
Sincerely,
Kyle & Jenny Heineken, Heineken Electric Co., Inc.

NCK Tech Students Compete in Welding Contest
North Central Kansas Technical College (NCK Tech) hosted the 10th annual Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) competition on Thursday, March 6, 2014 on the Beloit campus. Students from NCK Tech, Beloit and Hays campuses, Salina Area Technical College, Central Community College of Hastings, NE, Manhattan Area Technical College and Hutchinson Community College participated in the event. During the contest, students tested their technical knowledge with a GMAW written test and used their blueprint reading skills to fabricate various weldments and showcase their ability to weld in all positions using the GMAW process. The contest blueprints were developed by Nathan Lund and James Greenwood of AG-CO/Sunflower- Beloit and presented to the students the day of the competition to ensure a fair and equitable contest. The written test was developed by Wes Mosier of Deshler Nebraska. Weld inspection was conducted by Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) James Greenwood, Wes Mosier, Danny Fuller and Chuck Hatzenbueler.
Event sponsors and donations included: Lincoln Electric and Miller Electric (welding machines); ESAB Electric (wire); Caterpillar Tool Works of Wamego, AG-CO/Sunflower and Bohnert Welding (metal). Landoll Manufacturing provided lunch for the contestants and prizes were donated by Matheson/Linweld of Hastings, NE, Lincoln Electric, ESAB Electric, AG-CO/Sunflower of Beloit, Winkel Manufacturing- Glen Elder, Kohler Manufacturing- Beloit, and Webber Gross Welding.

NCK Tech March Madness
March Madness has arrived at NCK Tech! No, it’s not the Big 12 Tourney or Wichita State’s exceptional season or even the three local Beloit high school teams. Our madness is all about the NCK Tech Intramural Basketball Championship game on March 13th.
The Championship game pitted Team D against Team B. Team D players are: Jacob Arnold, Austin Chavez, Brandon McDowell and Trent Richardson of Welding; Caleb Amundson and Doug Weers of Heavy Equipment and Paden Unruh of Auto Tech. Team B players are: Austin Buce and Kadin Carter of Auto Collision Repair; Will Redding and Luke Schroer of Electricity; Toby Hubka of PHAC and Chuck Burkes (a non-student participant).
The two teams came into the game with identical 4-1 records. Team B’s only loss was to Team A (Ag Tech) during the first week of the regular season and Team D’s only loss was to Team B on February 26th by the score of 52-46. As such, the Championship game was a rematch of top two teams.
The opening tip off was controlled by Team B, but the ball was quickly stolen by Team D and the first points scored were on a lay-up. The level of play intensified immediately as both teams began to drive into the paint. As the level of play and the number of fouls increased, single points began to rain down. The lead changed a few times throughout the first half and ended in favor of Team B, with a three point advantage of 23-20.
The level of play continued to increase in the second half. Hubka and Redding of Team B found their marks as their three point shots began to fall, but Unruh and Arnold of Team D seemed to answer nearly every shot with their own from behind the arc. Team D had a three point lead as the clock dipped under the one minute mark and since the fouls were only “shooting” fouls, they were able to run out the clock and win by the score of 47-44.
Both teams played extremely well and deserve praise for their efforts. Team D received the “Traveling Trophy” and will also receive “Champion” t-shirts. Congratulations to all both teams for a great Intramural season!
