Chamber Coffee!

Join us TODAY for the “Chamber Coffee”, Friday, November 13th hosted by Solomon Valley Hospice, 311 W Main, 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. (come and go)

Solomon Valley Hospice is celebrating National Hospice Month with a few activities, but start your month off on Friday, November 13th at the Chamber Coffee! The following is the list of activities planned:

November 21st will be our Wine Tasting and Silent Auction. This is one of ONLY two fundraising events we hold each year. The first is our Fireworks sale in July. This year we are moving the venue from our offices to the Down Under Ball Room. There will be many wines to try out, so come early so you will be able to try them all. We will again feature a sample of Crabbies Ginger Beer. There is also limited quantities of this item, so once it’s gone, it’s gone. The Down Under bar will be open as well. This will be a cash only bar. Normal Down Under prices will apply. The event will start at 6pm and run until 9pm. The auction bidding will stop at 8pm. This will give us time to get the auction items distributed prior to the band starting. The band, Soul Preacher, will play from 9pm to 1am. This has been a very successful fundraiser for us and we so appreciate all local businesses as well as private individuals who donate items to this fundraiser. All proceeds received from this event help pay for the care that individuals receive from hospice who do not have any private insurance, or no other means to pay for their care. We will again have a wine basket that features several wines from the Oz Winery that will be drawn for at the end of the night as a door prize.

Our Memorial Christmas Tree will be put up in S & S Home Medical Equipment window on Friday, November 27th. This tree adorns hand-blown crystal angels that commemorate the patients we have served in the last year. There will be a second tree that is placed at Solomon Valley Bank that will also have angels on it for the general public. Angels are available for purchase at Solomon Valley Hospice at a price of $15.00. You can also purchase a display stand for $5.00 if you choose. These angels come in a very elegant white silk lined box for protection if you are not going to display it all year round. These trees stay lit, night and day, until after the holiday season is over. The trees will be taken down on December the 31st, where the tree will be moved to the Zion Lutheran Church in preparation for our Tree Un-Lighting Memorial Service which will be held on January the 3rd at 3pm. This service satisfies two needs. It’s a time that we can memorialize our patients that have passed with their families, and to make contact with the families after their first holidays without their loved ones. It is part of our bereavement process.

Maeve, Lexi, and Tayler will take your questions each day, and will work with you on either your own electronic equipment, or on the computers available at the Senior Center. No advance enrollment is required. The participants will determine the content, as their questions will lead the discussion. Whether novice or more advanced, Maeve, Lexi, and Tayler will help you become better suited to getting the most out of your device.

MEDICARE PART D SIGNUP SCHEDULED FOR CAWKER CITY

The annual Medicare Part D (prescription drug plan) enrollment period is currently in effect, and senior residents in the western part of Mitchell County will have a sign up event at Cawker City on Thursday, November 19th, at the Cawker City Library. The event is sponsored by the Mitchell County Council on Aging, and will be staffed by SHICK (Senior Health Insurance Counselors for Kansans) volunteer John Highland of Beloit. Area residents can schedule an appointment by calling librarian Kathy Bowles at 785-781-4925. While appointments are not required, they are recommended. The enrollment event will run from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Participants are reminded to bring a complete list of the prescription drugs they are currently taking, as these are needed to aid the SHICK volunteer find the policies which best fit your needs. There is NO CHARGE for this service.
SHICK volunteers go through three days of intense training the first year they are in the program, and then are required to have an additional day of training each year thereafter to keep their certification. These training sessions allow the SHICK volunteer to go through the many Medicare drug plans offered in Kansas, coupled with the individual’s own drug usage, to find the plans that are in the best interest of the enrollee. Considerations are given for monthly costs for each drug plan, any deductible, as well as the per drug costs for each plan, with the end result being a select few plans that potentially offer the best savings to the participant. SHICK volunteers all tell of the sizeable savings they often can find for those they assist, and John is eagerly looking forward to helping people in the Cawker City area.
All Medicare recipients are urged to go through the re-enrollment process each year, as plans change each year, making the “best” plan for you this year not necessarily the “best” plan for you this coming year. Also, an individual’s medications could change over the course of the current year, so the new policy for 2016 needs to allow for that. Seniors can also receive help at several local pharmacies, including S&S Drugs in Beloit, Gray Drugs and Fountain in Beloit, and Health Mart Pharmacy in Downs. Whether you choose one of the SHICK counselors, or one of the area pharmacies, let them help you select the plan that best fits your individual needs, and save some money in the process. The annual re-enrollment period runs until December 7th. The plans are set to take effect January 1st, 2016.

Nex-Tech Wireless Kicks Off Annual Toy Drive

Thanks to the generosity of those within the community, the holidays will be a little brighter for deserving children in our area this year. The Nex-Tech Wireless annual toy drive has kicked off and will continue until the end of December. Toys are being collected at all Nex-Tech Wireless and Nex-Tech Wireless Authorized Agent locations throughout central and western Kansas.

The Beloit Nex-Tech Wireless location will be collecting toys for the local Angel Tree. In the 2014 toy drive, over 500 toys were collected throughout the Nex-Tech Wireless market. Anyone is encouraged to donate a toy for the drive, regardless of your wireless provider.

Making the holidays even brighter this year, anyone who donates a toy will be entered into a drawing for a $250 Visa Gift Card. Additionally, the winner can choose their favorite local charity to receive $250. The winner will be announced on January 8th, 2016 and will then choose the local charity to receive $250 from Nex-Tech Wireless.

“The annual toy drive is a great way for Nex-Tech Wireless to support local organizations and children this holiday season” stated Jon Lightle, President and CEO for Nex-Tech Wireless. “We are grateful for everyone that donates a toy this holiday season, and helping make the drive a success. It’s an important time of year in our communities for everyone to be reminded of the opportunity to give back, and not just receive.”

To donate a new toy to help a child in the community, or for more information on Nex-Tech Wireless, stop by Nex-Tech Wireless located at 3053B East Highway 24 in Beloit. For a complete list of locations visit http://www.nex-techwireless.com or call 877-621-2600.

Join us for the “Chamber Coffee”, Friday, November 13th hosted by Solomon Valley Hospice, 311 W Main, 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. (come and go)

Solomon Valley Hospice is celebrating National Hospice Month with a few activities, but start your month off on Friday, November 13th at the Chamber Coffee! The following is the list of activities planned:

1. Chamber Coffee on Friday, November 13th with cinnamon rolls, juice and coffee!
